Welcome to the brand new Soulard.org! After months of planning and development, we’re excited to launch a completely redesigned website for the Soulard Restoration Group and the Soulard neighborhood.
What’s New
Design
Complete redesign using the neighborhood plum accent color.
Mobile-first, faster load times; the old site worked poorly on phones.
Consistent styling across all pages
Performance
Images are automatically resized and compressed per device, reducing data use.
Events & calendar
One-tap “Add to Calendar” buttons on every event.
Subscribable SRG calendar feed.
Events page leads with upcoming events; past events in a collapsible archive.
Ten annual events (Mardi Gras, Bastille Day, Oktoberfest, Parlour Tour, Soulard Pride, Membership Party, Beautification Auction, National Night Out, Rummage Sale, Winter Pots) each have a permanent URL that doesn’t change year to year. Printed materials stay valid.
Business directory
50+ businesses across Food & Drink, Shops & Retail, and Services & Venues, replacing the old ~35 bar/restaurant listings.
Homepage rotates featured businesses.
History & archives
131 publication issues online: 99 of The Restorationist (1976–1988), 32 of The Renaissance (1988–present), organized by decade. We’ll keep adding these much quicker than in the past.
All scans have a searchable text layer (Ctrl/⌘-F, copy/paste). Site-search integration planned.
109 event and community art posters archived.
Mardi Gras posters are now watermarked to protect copyright.
Historic-district design standards published as a searchable page instead of a link to a city PDF.
The Blaster
Online archive of past issues, updated automatically within six hours of publishing.
Governance
270+ sets of meeting minutes back to 2012, consolidated in one place.
Bylaws, policies, budgets, and official documents in a single location.
Search
Site-wide search across minutes, news, businesses, historic standards, and other content.
Maintenance
Committee volunteers can log in and edit; no user limit.
Annual July review checklist created.
Hosting
Modern hosting, low cost. Squarespace’s price is now $492/year.
Built to be simple and durable so it outlasts any single board or volunteer.
The new site is faster, easier to navigate, and built to serve our neighborhood for years to come. We hope you find it useful. Let us know what you think at our next General Membership Meeting!
